Jackfruit crafts a fluid and ever-evolving soundscape that pushes the boundaries of musical experimentation. This journey is led by Sy and Jack, who will guide the audience through a time wave, creating an experience that is both introspective and contemplative.
Jack Whu (they/them) is a queer performer born in Naarm/ Melbourne. They study flute and concurrently have a keen interest in electro acoustic music. Their practice hopes to create a safe space for the audience to explore intimate images and emotions through the use of complex harmonies and textures.
Sy Browne is a queer virtuosic musician, multi-instrumentalist, performing artist, composer, teacher and music producer, living in Mparntwe. With over 20 years experience as a performing musician, Sy’s captivating work ranges from live – experimental dark wave glitch performances to pumping industrial synth dance floors with infectious bass lines and hard edged beats. Sys work has been described as “danceable poetry for a posthuman planet”.
In addition to their own impressive accomplishments, they have supported many artists and musicians in Alice Springs by volunteering their time, equipment and expertise as a sound engineer. Simon is an excellent music teacher who’s consistent support of marginalized musicians and artists has meant that performance spaces have become more accessible and inclusive and many artists have been able to develop and present work, specifically due to Sy’s generous support.
